FAQ About Virtual Author's Assistant Training

This is an amazing time to consider joining to wonderful world of authors and those who assist them.  Author's assistants have been around for way over 100 years, but now authors who could not afford full time assistance can get what they need...virtually.

While many author's assistants have learned the profession from other long-time author's assistants, there is only one training and certification program on the market today that will prepare you for all the demands of the job.

What will I be able to do when I finish the course?

In working with thousands of authors, we've found that there are 24 critical tasks that they need an assistant to fulfill most often.  The trained author's assistant will come away from the course understanding now only how to do these things, but also when and why.  The course has over 335 pages of downloadable step-by-step instructions that will be a reference source throughout your career.

In addition, as soon as you register for the training program, you have access to an exclusive social networking site that allows you to ask questions and get the support of fellow author's assistants at any time.

Finally, you will also be listed on this directory.  We actively market to authors who are looking for author's assistants.

What is the training like?

This training will prepare VAs with practical skills, knowledge, and resources they will need to assist and guide authors in all stages of the publishing journey. The focus of each session is applied, hands-on learning.

The training is fun and energizing, but also jam-packed and fast-paced.  We don't want to waste a moment of your time, so we keep you engaged and learning.

The training is self-paced so all you need is your computer to watch visual slidecasts that illustrate the concepts and to download the instructions.
There are copies of the slides, checklists, logs and other important materials to use with author clients available any time you need them.

The material is presented by a seasoned veteran of the publishing industry, both an author and former publisher herself (see Jan B. King bio).

There are practice assignments that challenge the participant to go out and do the kind of work that working with authors would encompass. You get real practice before working with authors.

After the course is over, the support doesn't end.  You can take advantage of the alumni support group and pose questions you encounter in your work to other author's assistance as well as industry professionals.  In addition, we give specialty classes by phone, generally once a month, so you never stop learning.

And we never charge you a membership fee or charge you for additional classes or support...for the life of your business.
